The Portland Trail Blazers have shut down Damian Lillard and transitioned to tank mode. They came into the season with playoff aspirations but, ultimately, missed them in what ended up being a discouraging season.

With the season wrapping up, here’s a look back on Blazers that impressed enough not to be involved in trade talks this summer and a few that disappointed this season.

Untouchable No. 1: Shaedon Sharpe

Shaedon Sharpe has been one of Portland’s bright spots this season. Particularly as of late, Sharpe has been given the opportunity to display his talent and potential as the Blazers shut down Lillard.

Just 19 years old, the sky is the limit for Sharpe, who was selected seventh overall out of Kentucky in the 2022 NBA Draft. He averaged 9.6 points this season in 22 minutes per game.

With an increase in minutes and opportunity next season, there’s a legitimate case to be made for Sharpe to win the Most Improved Player Award.

In his past 10 games, Sharpe has averaged 22.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists on efficient 47/41/76 shooting splits. He’s elevated the Blazers franchise and given fans optimism for the future.

The last few weeks have shown what Sharpe is capable of. If the Blazers are to reach the playoffs next season after falling short this year, a significant reason will be the emergence of Sharpe. He has officially reached untouchable status as a Blazer.
