Scoot Henderson has maintained that he wants to bring a championship to the Portland Trail Blazers, and the team can get one huge step closer to that goal this summer. They have a chance to build on this past season’s successes with a major trade, and that will be their best chance to assert themselves as one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
There is so much talent in the NBA right now. And in the West, in particular, the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs look like they are primed to dominate the conference for years. In order to stand alongside them, the Blazers need to make a huge move, and they could have a chance to do so this summer.
That’s the best way to help Henderson fulfill his biggest wish.
Blazers need a big trade to help Scoot Henderson reach his goal of a championship in Portland
There could be a few different trade options available to the Blazers this summer. If they want to compete with the likes of the Thunder and Spurs, they need to take a big-time swing.
Obviously, the first name that comes to mind is Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. Adding him to the mix would help the Blazers surge up the pecking order in the West.
Should the Bucks decide to move on from him, Portland could offer them some of their own picks back, which would be an intriguing package for a squad entering a rebuild.
Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown could be another name to monitor. If the Celtics decide to shake things up this summer, perhaps Portland could inquire about bringing him on board.
Having a go-to scorer like Brown alongside the rest of the Blazers’ young core would definitely help them rise up the ranks out West, even if the Thunder and Spurs look like powerhouses.
There are some other stars who could make sense to target, but those are the first two that come to mind. No matter who it is, adding a star is the Blazers’ best chance at helping Henderson reach his goal of winning a championship in Portland.
The Blazers will inevitably be depending on a lot of internal development this season. They need guys like Donovan Clingan, Shaedon Sharpe, and Henderson to make leaps.
But without a big-time trade for another star player, they still seem pretty far away from competing with the top teams in the league.
So, if they want to help Henderson, who showed a lot of promise in these playoffs, keep improving and ultimately reach his goal of winning a title, a summer trade may be in order.
