The Dallas Mavericks could try and acquire CJ McCollum from the Portland Trail Blazers
Just like the Blazers, the Dallas Mavericks are also entering an imperative offseason. The team has already parted ways with General Manager Don Nelson and Head Coach Rick Carlisle and brought in their replacements.
Now that the new regime is under way in Dallas, it’ll be interesting to see how the incoming brass builds around franchise superstar Luka Doncic.
It’s hard to think of a better fit next to Luka than CJ. Luka is a player born in the LeBron James-mold, a dominant scorer whose best asset is actually his playmaking.
Adding CJ to Dallas’ backcourt would provide Doncic with a reliable second option and someone who can create his own shot when the defense blitzes the Slovenian point guard. Doncic’s superior playmaking would also cover for McCollum’s lack thereof.
The fit defensively would have been an issue just a year ago, but Luka’s improvements as a stopper have been notable and should only continue to ascend as he continues to gain experience in the league and train his body.
The Dallas Mavericks have the salaries to swing a trade for CJ, but are their assets enough to persuade the Portland brass into taking the deal? Kristaps Porzingis is the piece that immediately comes to mind, but is he really an upgrade for the Trail Blazers?
