Devin Booker wants to be a lifelong member of the Phoenix Suns, but maybe it would be best for both parties to part ways. And after getting swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder, perhaps the time for that discussion is now. Should Booker hit the trade market this summer, the Portland Trail Blazers should be the first team on the phone.
Portland has a very talented roster. It has young talent, star power, and a solid group of role players. But despite Deni Avdija’s leap this season, it still seems like the Blazers need a guy to be their 1A. And Booker definitely has the talent to be that guy.
A Booker trade would be absolutely perfect for the Blazers.
Blazers should explore a Devin Booker trade
Again, it seems like Booker may not want to leave Phoenix. He has had plenty of opportunities to request a trade or try to leave, and he hasn’t. That speaks volumes, especially with how many stars request trades nowadays.
Booker is one of the best scorers in the NBA. He’s dominant from the mid-range, can space to the three-point line, and when teams try to double him, his passing makes him a threat to kick out to shooters, too.
Portland has all the tools to be a future stud in the Western Conference. Avdija is leading the way. Shaedon Sharpe is a nice young star. Toumani Camara is an elite defender. Donovan Clingan looks like a great big man. Robert Williams, Jrue Holiday, Scoot Henderson, Jerami Grant, and more.
The Blazers have plenty of talent to start competing right now, but they don’t have the type of player who can lead them on deep playoff runs. That’s where Booker could come into play.
Phoenix doesn’t have much draft capital, as almost all of it was traded in the deals that brought Kevin Durant and Bradley Beack to Arizona — both of which failed pretty miserably.
If the Blazers send a horde of picks to the Suns, plus matching salary and maybe a young player, Booker could be the star they need to make them a true Western Conference contender.
Just imagine a lineup of Holiday, Booker, Avdija, Camara, and Clingan.
If Camara and Clingan continue to improve, that would be a lineup to be reckoned with in the Western Conference (and Henderson could take Holiday’s place when he retires).
Should Phoenix decide to explore Booker trades, Portland should absolutely be interested in making a deal.
