The 2024 NBA Finals showcases some of the league's most prolific scorers, including the Dallas Mavericks' dynamic backcourt of Luka Doncic and Kyrie and the Boston Celtics' wing duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. While these players are among the best in the league, they still have an extremely long way to go to reach the NBA Finals record for total points scored.

Honorable mentions for NBA Finals scoring performances

There are a few legendary NBA players who weren't the highest scorers in NBA Finals history but still deserve their flowers.

Elgin Baylor: Baylor holds the record for a single series in the NBA Finals. He scored 284 points in the 1962 NBA Finals, where the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics in seven games. Regarding NBA Finals scoring totals, Baylor is fifth on the list at 1,161 points.

LeBron James: James has 1,562 points accumulated throughout his 55 games played in the NBA Finals. As of now, he's the second-highest scorer in the NBA Finals. If James, 39, makes one more NBA Finals in his career, he has an excellent shot of breaking yet another scoring record. One record James already holds is the most playoff points of all time. At 8,162 points, he has scored more than 2,000 points than the next on the list, Michael Jordan, albeit in more than 100 games played.

Who holds the record for most NBA Finals points?

Los Angeles Lakers guard Jerry West holds the record for most total points scored in the NBA Finals. West played with the Lakers from 1960-74, scoring an impressive 1,679 points in nine NBA Finals appearances. He played 55 Finals games in those nine appearances, the same as James and one less than No. 3 on the list, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Interestingly enough, he's also the only player to win Finals MVP as a member of the losing team (although LeBron James certainly had a case to join him in 2015 when it was awarded to Andre Iguodala). While Elgin Baylor holds the record for the single series scoring in the Finals, West still has four of the top ten series scoring performances in history.

After all, there's a reason he's "The Logo."
