Trail Blazers odds to receive No. 1 overall pick in 2024 NBA Draft (Portland can improve draft lottery positioning)
By Reed Wallach
The Portland Trail Blazers started its rebuild last summer by trading Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks, and building around No. 3 draft pick Scoot Henderson, and the team is trending towards getting another top pick in this year’s NBA Draft.
Portland has the fifth worst record in the NBA, a game ahead of the San Antonio Spurs and two ahead of the Charlotte Hornets, which would currently give the Trail Blazers the fifth best odds to secure the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft (10.5%).
At FanDuel Sportsbook, you can bet on the odds for who will win the NBA Draft Lottery and the Trail Blazers, given its unclear outcome this season, are towards the top.
Portland has the fifth shortest odds to receive the No. 1 pick in June’s lottery at +700, which translates to an implied probability of 12.5%, right in line with the team’s odds currently. However, as outlined above, the team currently has a 10.% chance of pulling the right combination of ping-pong balls, so you are paying a bit of tax to get in on this bet.
The sportsbooks are acknowledging some flexibility in the team’s draft positioning given the record difference between the teams with the third, fourth and fifth worst record, but this is an interesting way to frame the lottery odds.
It’s worth noting that the Trail Blazers are set to be underdogs in its three remaining games, but two come at home against the Warriors and Rockets, before finishing the season in Sacramento against the Kings. Of course, it’d benefit the team to drop these last three in hopes of bolstering its odds of winning the lottery.
