Ranking top 5 draft prospects for Portland Trail Blazers' pick No. 14
By Reese Kunz
3. Cody Williams
Cody Williams is a challenging prospect to gauge. He's a versatile 6-foot-8 forward who has room to grow into his game at 19 years old. At Colorado, Williams' numbers didn't necessarily jump off the page; he averaged 11.9 points, three rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. Williams was highly efficient, with shooting splits of 55/42/71. However, the high upside of being a go-to scorer is one question mark preventing Williams from being a top lottery pick.
He doesn't seem to have that "it" factor in terms of his offensive assertiveness, frequently deferring at Colorado. Some of that could be due to his youth, but some could be the type of player he is.
Although Williams is a relatively raw prospect, he has a solid floor as a role player who should be a good defender with his frame and agility at the next level. He could even be the younger, cheaper alternative to Jerami Grant, allowing the Blazers to get off Grant's massive contract without missing his length and versatility quite as much.
If Williams can't be a consistent three-point threat, the fit alongside Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe could be murky. Still, Williams fits the Blazers' desperate need for a two-way wing. He should be a top prospect on their board if he's still available at No. 14.
