Trading Jerami Grant for less than their current asking price

Blazers' GM Joe Cronin's current asking price for Jerami Grant is two first-round picks. That's a substantial increase from what they traded the Pistons to acquire Grant in the first place. Because Grant is on such a long-term deal, it makes sense that Cronin is starting the negotiations at such a steep asking price. But that may have to eventually come down to one first-round pick and one promising young player.

Grant is already 30 years old and only has a limited window where he's still in his prime before he's potentially viewed as a negative asset, given the hefty five-year, $160 million deal signed last offseason.

It's all about balance for Cronin to find the right trade partner. The Blazers don't need to settle on a deal, especially since Grant isn't taking significant minutes away from key players. But at the same time, now may be a good market time to move on from Grant. Many teams' offseason targets have already found a landing spot, whether that was through trade or free agency.

Grant is one of the best remaining players on the market who is available for the right price, but that may not be the case as we approach the trade deadline and other high-profile names become available. The Blazers should strike a deal while Grant is the top player on the market and try to take advantage of desperate teams that have yet to make an offseason splash (like the Lakers).
