4 Teams that should consider trading for Robert Williams III
By Reese Kunz
3. Sacramento Kings
The reason the Kings should pursue Williams is very similar to why the Pelicans should. However, the Kings are in a better position regarding their big men entering the 2024-25 season. Domantas Sabonis is much more equipped than Zion to be a modern-day center, given his 6-foot-10 frame.
But even Sabonis is a defensive liability in certain matchups where he is undersized. Williams would give them added rim protection and more lineup versatility when they play against those bigger Western Conference teams; this is especially important come playoff time when the physicality increases.
Williams would fit in well in Sacramento—they are more of an offensive-minded team that already has several capable scorers. He can still contribute offensively with his athleticism and rim-running ability, but RW3 would improve an area of weakness for Sacramento with this rebounding, rim-protection, and defensive versatility. He would be a great addition to help the Kings develop more of a physical, defensive-minded team identity, which they currently lack.
The Kings have a few intriguing assets for the Blazers besides the potential draft capital that would be involved in the deal. The most notable player is Kevin Huerter, who is on a contract similar to Williams'. The two could be exchanged for each other without having to get other salary fillers involved.
