3 Most underpaid Portland Trail Blazers players on next season's roster
By Reese Kunz
2. Toumani Camara
2024-25: $1.9 million
Toumani Camara was a trade sweetener as part of the Deandre Ayton deal with the Phoenix Suns but turned out to have a much more productive rookie season than many were expecting. The Dayton forward fell all the way to No. 52 in the 2003 NBA Draft due to concerns surrounding his age and offensive limitations.
But in his rookie season with the Blazers, Camara averaged 7.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 0.9 steals on 45/34/76 shooting splits. His three-point shooting efficiency was the most pleasant surprise, considering Camara averaged 30.7 from beyond the arc in his four-year collegiate career.
However, the most impactful aspect of his game is on the defensive end. Despite being a rookie, Camara was constantly tasked with guarding the opposing team's best player. His 6-foot-8 frame gives him the ability to guard multiple positions, making him an ideal modern-day forward. Going into next season, Camara is a steal on his rookie contract at $1.9 million. He still has room to grow as a scorer and playmaker, but Camara will provide value in 2024-25 as a 3-and-D wing off the bench.
He could also be in for an increased role if the Blazers ultimately move Jerami Grant, depending on who they would get back. The Blazers have Camara on a great deal for three more seasons if they pick up his team option in 2026-27, making him a foundational piece in their young rebuilding core.
