The red-hot Portland Trail Blazers have unexpectedly won 10 of their last 11 games. They are now 23-29 on the season and are looking to extend their active six-game winning streak on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Despite how well Chauncey Billups has the Blazers playing lately, it's going to be a tall task to defeat the 29-23 Timberwolves.
Whether Portland should be trying to compete for a play-in spot is up for debate. But it sounds like that's the plan, judging by Joe Cronin's inactivity at the deadline. If they truly want to make noise in the competitive Western Conference, these are the upsets they'll have to pull off.
Unfortunately, both teams have key players pop up on the injury report. However, recent updates reveal that Minnesota will be more shorthanded than Portland.
Portland Trail Blazers injury report
Deni Avdija and Scoot Henderson were previously listed as questionable, but both are available to play, per Sean Highkin of Rose Garden Report.
Here is Portland's injury report:
- Deni Avdija: AVAILABLE (R Hand Sprain)
- Scoot Henderson: AVAILABLE (R Ankle Soreness)
- Matisse Thybulle: OUT (R Ankle Sprain)
- Rayan Rupert: OUT (On Assignment)
The Blazers will be without two-way players Bryce McGowens and Justin Minaya. They also recently waived Taze Moore to sign Sidy Cissoko.
With Avdija available, the Blazers will have their typical starting five as of late: Anfernee Simons, Toumani Camara, Avdija, Jerami Grant, and Deandre Ayton.
Minnesota Timberwolves injury report
Edwards and Mike Conley were previously listed as questionable, but both have recently been downgraded to out, according to Sean Highkin of Rose Garden Report.

Here is Minnesota's injury report:
- Mike Conley: OUT (Right Index Finger Sprain)
- Anthony Edwards: OUT (Right Hip Soreness)
- Done DiVincenzo: OUT (Left Great Toe Sprain)
- Julius Randle: OUT (Right Groin Strain)
- Leonard Miller: OUT (On Assignment)
Minnesota will also be without two-way players Jesse Edwards and Tristen Newton.
Update: The Timberwolves will start Rob Dillingham, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, and Rudy Gobert.
With Edwards and Conley both ruled out, the Timberwolves will have to rely on rookie Rob Dillingham and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to generate more offense in their backcourt. Minnesota may have to win this game on the defensive end, as their two best healthy players are Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
The Blazers also have been a top-ranked defensive team lately as they have found a new identity during their recent stretch, so this could be a low-scoring affair.
Tip-off at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota is scheduled for 5:00 PM PST.
