Fiserv Forum got its first glimpse at what Portland Trail Blazers fans have been watching for more than a decade when the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Philadelphia 76ers 118-117 behind 39 points from Damian Lillard, including 14 points in the final four minutes.
Dame Time has officially started in Milwaukee.
Lillard hit a go-ahead three with 2:45 remaining in the fourth quarter to start an 11-0 Bucks run. He fittingly capped the night by calmly knocking down a pair of shots from the free-throw line, where he went 17 for 17 in the win.
According to ESPN, Dame’s 39 points were the most scored by any player in a Bucks debut.
“I came in here to be a part of winning, and I think I’ve started to settle in just by how I’ve been embraced and what the team is saying to me behind closed doors,” Lillard said.
Based on what Blazers fans were saying on X (Twitter), Dame is still being embraced out West, as well.
Blazers fans flood social media with bittersweet Lillard takes after Bucks performance
Watching Damian Lillard go off late in the fourth quarter and drag his team to a victory is nothing new for PDX fans, but seeing him do it in another jersey certainly is.
And while not all Blazers fans are thrilled with the prospect of Dame Time running in another city, it seemed like a majority of his followers back in Portland had a bit of a proud papa vibe happening:
As Lillard said this offseason, there will always be love between him, the city of Portland and Trail Blazers fans. It only took one fourth quarter in Milwaukee to get a glimpse of how close the connection still is.
