2024 NBA Mock Draft: Blazers take game-changer, Spurs get star at 1
By Tyler Watts
5. Washington Wizards select Isaiah Collier
The Wizards entered a full-scale rebuild this offseason by trading Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis. They did re-sign Kyle Kuzma and trade for Jordan Poole and Tyus Jones. Bilal Coulibaly was the first pick of the Michael Winger era in D.C., and the Wizards love his potential. They should be drafting the best player available in an attempt to accumulate talent.
Collier is in the running to be the top pick entering the season and is arguably the best point guard in this class. The 6’3 guard is a floor general with impressive court vision and passing chops. He will get every player involved and could become one of the best playmakers in the NBA if he reaches his ceiling.
Collier must improve his jumper and scoring ability if he wants to become a star. The teenager will lead a talented USC squad this season and has plenty of chances to showcase his growth. If he becomes a plus shooter and finisher at the rim, the 6’3 guard could be the top pick in this class.
The Washington Wizards could allow him to grow and learn from Tyus Jones before installing him as their starting point guard. It could help Isaiah Collier reach his ceiling and become a star in a draft class filled with uncertainty at the top.
