2024 NBA Mock Draft: Blazers take game-changer, Spurs get star at 1
By Tyler Watts
16. San Antonio Spurs (via Toronto Raptors) draft Elmarko Jackson
The Spurs will be searching for pieces that fit around Victor Wembanyama. In this mock, they drafted Ron Holland with the number one overall pick to give San Antonio another versatile wing to pair with their 7’3 soon-to-be superstar. The franchise needs a point guard to run their offense, and drafting a young talent who can grow with Wemby is a must.
Jackson is not the best playmaker at this stage, but the 6’3 guard has tremendous upside. His tools and athletic ability leap off the screen. The 19-year-old has a quick first step and loves to get downhill. His plus length should allow him to guard multiple positions, and Jackson could be an impactful player on both ends of the floor.
He is playing on a talented Kansas squad and the freshman will have to battle for minutes. Jackson may not have the ball in his hands a ton, but it will be a crucial season. Can he become a plus shooter, scorer, and defender? The lead guard upside is there, which should only increase his draft stock.
The San Antonio Spurs would love to add a versatile weapon with starting point guard upside to their talented core. Elmarko Jackson could be a fantastic fit and help them have an elite defense.
