The two sides continued to engage in discussions (subscription required), but no deal was reached. In the initial offer, the Clippers gave up the 30th overall pick in 2023, Amir Coffey, and Marcus Morris Sr., and that would likely be the benchmark for the Blazers in talks.

The Clippers would likely put a top-20 protection on the pick, but this is their chance to solve an ongoing problem. They have had point guard and ball-handling issues since acquiring Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Malcolm Brogdon has proven he can run an NBA offense and is comfortable starting or coming off the bench.
