11. Orlando Magic (via Bulls) select Gradey Dick
The Magic have two picks in the top 11 of the 2023 NBA Draft. They surprisingly went with Jarace Walker at six in this mock draft, but Orlando has to address their 3-point shooting woes. They were 24th in 3-point percentage last season and 27th in threes attempted. The Magic desperately need someone that can space the floor and knockdown open looks.
Dick profiles as arguably the best shooter in this class after making 40.3 percent on his 206 3-point attempts during his lone season at Kansas. He has a beautiful shot that should quickly translate to the deeper NBA 3-point line.
Dick is more than just a spot-up shooter. He showed the ability to drill jumpers off the move and can attack closeouts. The 19-year-old could quickly make an impact with his shooting, but the rest of his game will need time to develop.
Can Gradey Dick hold his own on the defensive end of the floor? He is 6’6 with a 6’9 wingspan but is not an elite athlete. Dick needs to add some bulk to defend down low. He will likely be hunted early in his career, which makes drafting Jarace Walker so appealing. Now, they can play off the other’s strengths and both improve from it.
