2023 NBA Mock Draft: Trail Blazers get future star, Magic surprise at 6

10. Dallas Mavericks draft Taylor Hendricks
The Mavericks are rumored to be shopping this pick, but would that change if Hendricks falls to ten? Losing Jalen Brunson in last summer’s free agency started a domino effect in Dallas that unbalanced their roster, and that was only made worse by the Kyrie Irving trade. They need size, defense, and talent if they want to make another deep playoff run with Luka Doncic leading their charge.
Hendricks was not expected to be a one-and-done player, but he was outstanding at UCF where he averaged 15.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.7 blocks in 34.7 minutes per game. The 6’8 forward shot 39.4 percent from 3-point range and his versatility has every team intrigued.
His 7’1 wingspan and developing body give him the upside to be able to guard all five positions. Hendricks defends well on the ball and showcased some rim protection chops in college. He would be fantastic in a switch-heavy system, and the 19-year-old should only improve.
There was a ton to like in his college film, but UCF did not play the toughest schedule. How much will that impact his draft stock? Taylor Hendricks feels like a lock for the top ten, and he could make the Dallas Mavericks think twice about trading this pick. The 6’8 forward is a perfect fit next to Luka Doncic, but he will take some time to develop.
