The Portland Trail Blazers may be able to take advantage of the Sacramento Kings turmoil

The Sacramento Kings recently fired Head Coach Luke Walton, a move that many would describe as “long overdue.”

Former New Orleans Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry will take over as interim while Sacramento searches for their next play caller.

While parting ways with Walton shouldn’t have been a difficult decision, the Kings brass does have a true conundrum they have to deal with soon. Should the team tear it down again and launch another rebuild? And the follow-up question to that would be: Is De’Aaron Fox still part of whatever future lies ahead?

Regardless of the answer to the Fox problem, the clear decision would be to blow the rest of the roster up. Any King outside of Tyrese Haliburton, Davion Mitchell, and maybe Fox should be available for the right price.

While Sacramento isn’t exactly a golden standard of how to build a team, there are several parts on that roster that are greater than the sum of what the Kings run out day-to-day.

Harrison Barnes, Richaun Holmes, and Buddy Hield are all high-quality starters that could take a middling playoff team over the hump, given the right fit.

As the Kings shouldn’t expect to compete any time soon, they’ll be looking for future assets in return in trades. Since Portland doesn’t have many of those handy, they’ll likely need a third team to get involved to make a transaction with Sacramento work.
