Robert Covington is the forgotten man in the Portland Trail Blazers offense, and he’s taking full advantage

Robert Covington started the season cold, but as the wide-open looks kept coming, he started drilling them.

With Dame, CJ, Norm, and Nurkic on the court, it’s pretty clear that RoCo has to be the odd man out on the Blazers offense, but that’s what makes this Portland team so dangerous when everybody is clicking.

Leaving a career 36 percent deep shooter is usually not a good idea, but defenses don’t really have any other choice.

RoCo is currently averaging just over a wide-open three per game per NBA.com, meaning at least once a game, he gets a look at a triple where there’s not a single defender within six feet of him.

That number is likely to shoot up after tonight’s game and should continue to rise over the course of the season with Dame rounding into form.

Covington has now hit nine of his last 17 attempts from beyond the arc, and a lot of those were great looks. If RoCo can stay hot, there’s no reason he shouldn’t have a ton of incendiary scoring nights strictly from open 3-pointers.
