The Portland Trail Blazers have just signed two-time NBA Champion and former Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors guard, Quinn Cook to a one-year non-guaranteed deal.

The Athletic’s NBA Insider Shams Charania had the news as usual.

Cook is a 28-year-old point guard who stands six-foot-one and weighs in at 180 pounds.  He was an All-American and had an impressive career at Duke, before going undrafted in 2015.

He played a key role on the Warriors teams of 2018 and 2019, winning a title in 2018, before signing with the Lakers in 2020 where he won his second title.

Cook is a 40 percent shooter from three who has a strong mid-range game. He can bring decent backup guard play as a passer but is more of a heat-up quick scorer. On the other end, he isn’t a great defender. He obviously brings leadership and championship experience.

The Blazers haven’t had a true backup point guard since Shabazz Napier and to a lesser extent, Seth Curry was on the team. Cook could bolster the bench unit with his creation abilities for himself and others.

The Blazers, interestingly, have four players on training camp or non-guaranteed deals, in Cook, Marquese Chriss, Dennis Smith Jr and Patrick Patterson. This will make for a competitive training camp, as there are still two roster spots up for grabs. NBA Teams are allowed a minimum of 13 players on the roster, and a maximum of 15.

NBA Training camp for all teams begins on September 28, while the regular season officially starts on October the 19th.
