Portland Trail Blazers free agent option #3 – Garrett Temple

Garrett Temple is a six-foot-five veteran wing, who at 35 is still in his prime as a ” three and D ” wing.

Temple was a back-of-rotation guy for the first two years of his career after going undrafted in 2009. It wasn’t until his age 26 year that he earned a consistent role. He has played 24 minutes a night every season since 2016 as he became known as a great locker room guy and role player.

Temple’s calling card is strong passing from the wing, great defense, and league average three-point shooting. Though his career rate is just 34.6 percent, he has generally sat above that rate in recent years.

Last year for the Chicago Bulls, he was a big part of their improvement with his ability to guard wing threats or some of the bigger forwards in the league. He can force turnovers or block shots at the rim as a help guy.

Adding his strong passing to the mix, Temple is a solid wing role player who could play either the two or three for the Blazers.

Because he is 35, he will likely come cheap. The Blazers can probably get him on the minimum or maybe a two-year deal using the mini mid-level if that was the case.

The three players above are mainly defensive guys, who have some complementary offensive skills. Because of Dame’s average size and defensive ability, these three would be perfect fits playing the two next to him or even the one where he could potentially play off-ball a little to conserve energy. With their likely price on the market also being small, they also fit the Blazers small budget.
