Carmelo Anthony destination #2 – Utah Jazz

It may seem like a strange fit to suggest Melo to the Jazz, but their second unit has serious problems with shot creation on offense when guys like Donovan Mitchell go to the bench.

With one of the best two-way starting units in the league, the Jazz actually finished the 2021 regular season with the best record in the entire NBA. Their elite defense, combined with excellent three-point shooting, gave them one of the best seasons in their history.

With just Jordan Clarkson and Joe Ingles on the bench in terms of role players, and Mike Conley a pending free agent, they may not have the money or resources to strengthen their bench.

Though he isn’t a strong defender, next to rim-protecting bigs like Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors, he could be a great fit as a four. Bench creation is important for fringe playoff teams like the Jazz, especially as they get more expensive with the new extensions for Gobert and Mitchell.

Melo shot an impressive career-high 40.9 percent from three in 2021 and is an excellent bench option as a backup spot shooter who can provide low-level shot creation in the post as well as passing for others if he can draw double teams. Melo’s market is the veteran’s minimum, so he would be a nice fit on the capped-out Jazz.
