Buyout candidate #2 – Jeff Teague

Jeff Teague is by far the best free-agent point guard available at the moment. Though the Blazers may not feel the need to sign a backup point guard at the moment, having Teague there as a break glass option in the playoffs could help them.

Teague is a 32-year old floor general who is a one-time All-Star and has significant playoff experience with the Indiana Pacers. He played for the Atlanta Hawks in the mid-2010s who made the conference finals.

Teague’s strength is his nice touch around the basket and his help defense in terms of grabbing steals. He is also a league-average shooter from distance at around 36 percent.

Teague’s ability to draw contact at the rim is also a strength of his.

Starting the season on the Boston Celtics, he was then traded to the Orlando Magic, who recently cut him. He can’t help a young team at the moment, but with the Blazers having no secondary playmaker off the bench, he could help Lillard rest from time to time and play CJ more off the ball on second units.
