There’s a possibility that the NBA could discuss expanding roster sizes, given the pandemic. If they do, which free agents could be capable fits for the Portland Trail Blazers?

As the pandemic is forcing more and more teams leaguewide into roster shortages before games, the NBA finds itself facing the inevitable question just two weeks into the young 2020-21 season: is it time to expand rosters? Former Portland Trail Blazers guard Jamal Crawford broke the ice, earlier today on Twitter, suggesting the increase, be it through G-League players, seasoned veterans, whatever the case.

According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the wheels could be in motion towards expanding those rosters, after an initial proposal was turned down.

How front offices across the league would be against this initially — other than for monetary reasons — is a discussion within itself.

On a daily basis, some team has missed out on a key rotational piece because of the safety and protocol policies. And while the Portland Trail Blazers have been fortunate to not have missed too much at this juncture, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Terry Stotts hasn’t always hasty about playing some of the new additions that Portland did expect to have this season (think Harry Giles III for example), so expecting him to ration out playing time for free agents, even if rosters expand, is dicey at best. But in the event that it does come, here are a few players that could be worth a stash.
