On the anniversary of Brandon Roy’s initial retirement, we take a look back at five of his greatest moments in Portland Trail Blazers history.

Yesterday marked the 9th anniversary of Brandon Roy‘s original retirement from the NBA. Just before training camp for the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, Roy informed the Portland Trail Blazers that his knees would no longer allow him to play the game he loved for the team he loved.

Sadly, the cartilage in Roy’s knees degenerated so much that there was virtually none left. It was the latest case in Portland’s long injury history.

Roy was a fixture in the Blazers’ lineup from 2006-11, and his retirement was lamented by many, especially considering his health had suffered so much. The potential Roy had will always be considered one of the NBA’s biggest “what if” stories.

Though he only played five years in Portland, the fan base adored him, and for good reason. Roy gave everything he had, even his knees for this team and that will always be remembered.

In honor of Roy’s five seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, let’s take a look back at five of the greatest B-Roy moments in his career.
