NBA legend and future Hall-of-Famer Carmelo Anthony has re-signed with the Portland Trail Blazers on what will likely be a one-year deal for the 2021 season.

The Portland Trail Blazers excellent offseason has continued, this time as they were able to secure the service of future Hall-of-Famer, and NBA legend Carmelo Anthony. On the second day of free agency, NBA Insider Shams Charania announced the deal.

The 36-year-old Anthony was one of the best shooters in the NBA Bubble and had a solid 2019/20 season. His stats were as follows.

58 games – 58 starts

15.4 points – 6.3 rebounds

43 percent from the field – 38.5 percent from three – 84.5 percent from the line

Melo was able to add value in the 2019/20 season as a spot-up shooter and a secondary shot creator. With the massive injury toll, Melo was one of the most consistent forms of production in both the regular and post-season.

In 2021 though, he is likely to have a reduced role as Robert Covington and Derrick Jones Jr. have been signed as forward options. I still see Melo having a role, but for the good of the team, it won’t be 13 shots a night.

As a spot-up threat who can add some rebounding, Melo will still be able to play a backup role in both the regular season and playoffs. I’m pretty certain that this will be a one-year deal on the veterans minimum. Welcome back Melo.
