Pick Analysis. Combo Guard. New Zealand Breakers. RJ Hampton. 23. Scouting Report. player. 118

One of the more intriguing picks in this year’s draft, RJ Hampton last played in the Australian NBL for the New Zealand Breakers. The Utah Jazz are looking to continue making the playoffs but need more shot creation to pair with Donovan Mitchell.

Though they have Mike Conley, he is aging and won’t help Mitchell when he is at his peak. The pending free agency of Rudy Gobert also means that there is some uncertainty in terms of who the Jazz long-term pieces are outside of Mitchell.

Hampton could be the perfect pairing next to Mitchell though. It’s hard to get a good read on Hampton’s draft stock, but he is elite as an athlete. He has high defensive upside, he can create for others, and he has been working on his shooting with longtime NBA veteran Mike Miller.

He is still very raw in terms of his overall package, but the talent is clearly there. Whether or not a playoff team wants to take a punt on him remains to be seen. But Hampton has shown glimpses of high-level skills on both ends.

Tre Jones. 24. 89. Duke. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Point Guard

Another playoff team that requires a shot creator is the Milwaukee Bucks. They have had two embarrassing playoff exits in a row, even though back-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is their main piece.

With their 24th pick, they should select point guard Tre Jones out of Duke, brother of Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones. Jones stands six-foot-three and is 20-years-old.

Though Jones isn’t elite offensively, with the Bucks financial constraints moving forward, they can bring in a guy like Jones who can create for others and shoots the three at around 36 percent.

He plays an unselfish game and operates well out of the pick and roll. As a defender, Jones is strong as both a man and team defender. He can lock down the point of attack and is at his best making plays on that end.

The Bucks need guards as they continue to build around Giannis; Jones could be an ideal selection at 24.
