The NBA Draft is almost upon us, and the Minnesota Timberwolves will pick with the first selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. Here is our second 2020 NBA Mock Draft.
The Minnesota Timberwolves were ecstatic when they moved up in the lottery for the first time in franchise history. With D’Angelo Russell pairing up with good friend Karl Anthony-Towns, the Wolves have some real positivity around the franchise. Though fans weren’t able to see Towns and Russell play with the rest of the rebuilt squad in the 2019/20 season, they can look forward to having a young, exciting squad in the 2020/21 season.
With Andrew Wiggins moved to the Golden State Warriors to bring in Russell, the Wolves are looking for a three-level scorer with athleticism to replace him. Georgia’s Anthony Edwards looks like he fits the bill. He is a strong six-foot-five with an impressive six-foot-nine wingspan.
In terms of a prototypical NBA athlete, Edwards is the best guy on the board. If his shooting comes on, he could be a star.
There are rumors that the Golden State Warriors may look to move the number two pick in this year’s draft. With a $17 million trade exception available, they could bring in a veteran to team up with their star core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. If they don’t go down this route, then the logical pick would be Center James Wiseman out of Memphis.
Though ineligibility issues plagued his one and done year, Wiseman is still a likely top-five pick, as well as being the top big man in this draft. At seven-foot-one with a seven-foot-six wingspan, Wiseman is built like a modern-day David Robinson.
The Warriors have no traditional big men on their roster, and as their core is all aged 30 or older, they need a defensive anchor to solidify the backline. This Warriors team will be able to score next season, but gone are the days of Green and Klay switching through four or five positions.
Wiseman is already an elite rim protector, and he has good instincts on that end of the floor.
His shooting hasn’t come on yet, but there is hope that he could stretch it out to three consistently.
