Golden State Warriors

Why It Makes Sense for the Portland Trail Blazers:

After signing a prove-it deal with the Golden State Warriors, former top ten pick Marquese Chriss had the best season of his career. He provided quality minutes off the bench at both the power forward and center position and showed a massive improvement in his defensive capabilities. Chriss brings an extra level of defensive presence to the Portland Trail Blazers big men and would serve as a more than capable replacement should Hassan Whiteside in free agency.

Since Portland would be trading their most coveted young prospect in Anfernee Simons, a first-round pick would sweeten the deal. Especially since Golden State controls Minnesota’s first-round pick next season, making them more willing to part with their own pick.

Why It Makes Sense for the Golden State Warriors:

While Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are probably the best guard pairing in the league, although Dame and CJ would say otherwise, the Warriors have a lack of good guards off the bench for when they sit.

Anfernee Simons immediately gives the Warriors a young scorer who can put up buckets while the splash bros rest. They have a good record of developing shooters and would look to put Ant on a similar trajectory to Curry and Klay.

With the second overall pick in this year’s draft, it’s looking more and more likely the Warriors are going to select a big man such as James Wiseman or Deni Advija. This would make them less inclined to keep Chriss around even though he had a solid season last year. They would even be inclined to throw in next year’s first to land a prospect like Simons, banking on having a successful season and thus a low pick.
