Portland Trail Blazers bargain basement free agent five – Iman Shumpert

Iman Shumpert hasn’t had a permanent role in the NBA since the 2018/19 season, but he is a six-foot-four wing with championship experience.

Shumpert’s injuries, combined with some of the situations he’s been in, have meant he hasn’t been able to nail down a permanent role in the NBA. After his triumphant 2015/16 finals, where he had a famous four-point play in the game seven epic while playing great defense on Klay Thompson and Steph Curry, Shumpert has bounced around the league.

This probably suggests he is more of a role player now than a starter. His three-point shooting has dropped off slightly in the last few seasons, but I think he is still a league-average shooter from distance.

There aren’t a massive amount of guys who can guard multiple positions and knock down the three at a league-average rate. Shumpert is probably only a 15 – 20-minute guy, but on the veterans minimum, maybe the Blazers could get him in and see if he could play a role for a full season.

He has NBA finals experience, and at 30-years-old, he may still have some time left to add value for a team in the league.
