Portland Trail Blazers bargain basement free agent three – Luc Mbah a Moute

As a backup three and four who sits in the three and d role, Luc Mbah a Moute will be looking for another team to play for on a minimum deal next season.

Though he is 34-years-old, Mbah a Moute has hit on 36.5 percent of his threes over the last five seasons. He was considered a strong defensive option for the Houston Rockets in 2017/18, and when he went down injured that season, their team defense wasn’t the same.

Mbah Moute has finished in the top 25% of his position to steal percentage on seven different occasions.

Though he didn’t play in the NBA this regular season after recovering from injury, he was signed by the Rockets for the bubble stretch, reflecting his recent health and standing as a defensive option.

There are very few free agents available to guard the league’s big forwards and shoot league average from three. At six-foot-eight with a seven-foot wingspan, he has the tools and playoff experience to still be a competent backup forward.

If he had the required fitness, I would sign Mbah Moute to a single year minimum deal.
