Portland Trail Blazers bargain basement free agent two – Courtney Lee
Courtney Lee still has a place in the NBA as a wing that can defend or knock down the three-ball.
Lee spent the last year and a half on the Dallas Mavericks after being part of the New York Knicks deal where Kristaps Porzingis was moved.
Overall, Lee has spent 12 seasons in the NBA and has been one of the best three-point shooters in that time, hitting 38.8 percent of his attempts.
At six-foot-five, he can defend twos and some threes, and while he can’t defend all the quicker guards anymore, he has always been great at forcing turnovers – finishing in the 80th percentile and above on eight different occasions.
Lee is also a good passer; he can play make a little as a secondary ball-handler.
Lee was a big part of the Knicks rotation for the 165 games he played there, before falling out of favor with management and then being traded to Dallas. He also wasn’t in the Mavericks rotation until this February when injuries gave him a chance. Lee performed admirably, knocking down 40 percent of his threes and being a plus on the box score.
Unfortunately, he was injured before the playoffs and could not assist the Mavericks in their exciting playoff run. His injury isn’t serious, though, and he would be ready to join a team next season.
Lee is a minimum back up wing who can still defend and knock down threes while being a strong presence in the locker room.
