The Portland Trail Blazers need veteran leadership and cheap contracts for 2021. Which former Blazers could they bring back to fit the bill?

The Portland Trail Blazers are low on cash this offseason. They will likely have just the mid-level exception to spend. They will still be trying to contend though, and without a doubt, will be a better team in the 2021 season with a fit Jusuf Nurkic, Rodney Hood, and Zach Collins.

Their lack of cash though, means that they will likely only be able to sign one strong free agent with the mid-level at around $10 million a year and then fill the rest of the roster out with minimum contracts. Luckily, minimum deals don’t count against the midlevel exception.

The Blazers need solid role players that can come in and perform a specific task. There are a few gaps in the roster that need to be filled on the open market.

Bringing back an ex-Blazer familiar with some of the personnel and the inhouse systems could make things easier. A few of these players on the open market may be cheap and could come in and make a difference right away. The Blazers are in win-now mode, so veterans with playoff experience are vital.
