Portland Trail Blazers swingmen candidate #2 – Saddiq Bey

When you talk about 3/D players, Saddiq Bey is a model example. The size, the shooting, the defensive instincts, Bey has it all to become a reliable NBA wing.

6’8″ with a 6’11” wingspan, Bey’s size is ideal for defending wings in today’s NBA. If he bulks up a bit (as young players tend to do with age), he could effectively guard at least three positions. That size gives him a bit of an advantage on the offensive edge as well, especially when it comes to his shot.

Bey is an absolute sniper hitting 45.1% of his threes for Villanova last season. The Wildcats needed him to step up after the departure of Mikal Bridges after the 2018 season. While the team didn’t find the same success, Bey certainly showed that he was a worth heir to Bridges.

In Bey, the Blazers would have a player who can stretch the floor while not being an absolute sieve on the defensive end.

Like Green, Bey could defend some of the fierce wings in the Western Conference. In fact, thanks to his size, he could even defend (to a degree) the likes of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Lebron James.

If Saddiq Bey is available at 16, the Blazers should almost certainly pounce on the opportunity.
