Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Trent Jr puts out notice to other NBA players that he is the best at popular sports video game “NBA 2K”.

Boredom inside the NBA bubble has not been a problem for Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Trent Jr.

The second-year player said in an interview with NBA media on July 14 that his life has not changed inside the bubble. Similar to before and during the pandemic, the self-proclaimed homebody’s schedule mostly involves going to the gym and playing video games.

Trent Jr. said he plays a wide range of games including “Call of Duty”, “Star Wars” and “Batman”. As for his favorite game “NBA 2K”, the avid gamer made a bold declaration.

“I’m going to say it here first: I’m the best 2K player in the NBA,” Trent Jr. said. “I love the NBA game.”

He said that he has not yet played any players in the bubble, but everyone still knows how good he is.

In April during its hiatus, the NBA held its first-ever “NBA 2K Player’s Tournament”. Sixteen players participated in the contest including Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young. Trent Jr. did not participate in the event.

Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker won the tournament. Like Trent Jr., devoted gamer Booker made an audacious statement after winning.

“Anybody who think they can play 2K, let’s get it,” Booker said.

There are many respected, well-known video game players around the league such as Boston Celtics forward Gordon Howard and New Orleans Pelicans guard Josh Hart.

Some of the best players at “NBA 2K” are Durant and teammate Kyrie Irving according to Ronnie Singh, digital marketing director of 2K games and face of “NBA 2K”.

Last year on Durant’s show “The Boardroom”, Singh said that Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George is the best at the popular basketball video game.

George averages around 30-40 hours a week playing video games as reported by ESPN. Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond who sometimes plays George said that George could be a professional Esports player if he wanted.

Other notable “NBA2K” players are Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Trent Jr. said the Bucks and Blazers are some of the few teams he likes to use in the game. He added that he could really play with any team.

A reporter quickly rephrased Trent. Jr.’s statement to clarify if he meant it’s really him and not the teams he chooses that makes him great.

The Blazers guard laughed.

“You said it! Not me!”
