Portland Trail Blazers superstar guard Damian Lillard loves to rap, but the song he made recently has a much deeper message.
Damian Lillard’s life has never been easy. Growing up in Oakland, CA, he always had a chip on his shoulder to make it out and make a name for himself. Even when the odds were stacked against him as a black man, he managed to make a name for himself and become the NBA star that everyone knows today.

With the tragic event of George Floyd’s death, an outpour of black professional athletes have spoken out about the injustices in America, one of those athletes being Lillard.
Just recently, Lillard posted a picture on his Instagram page showing him in his hometown protesting with others and linking arms to show the togetherness of the group.
Even with that picture, Lillard did not stop there with his voice. On the court, Lillard is the star of the Portland Trail Blazers. Off the court, Damian Lillard has other interests, and one of those interests is rapping.
Going by the name of “Dame D.O.L.L.A”, Lillard has made many songs, even creating an album named “Big D.O.L.L.A” that featured other well-known rappers such as Lil Wayne and G-Eazy.
Using his rapping platform, Lillard decided to release a song on Soundcloud titled “Blacklist”. In this song, he talks of all the judgement and hardships that have been put upon black people while flowing majestically on a piano beat.

Damian Lillard is obviously mad about these events, but he isn’t settling. He knows that by using his image to promote something, he can make a difference in this world one day at a time.
Hopefully this song becomes a song that people can listen to and help them realize the bigger picture. Hopefully this will be a building block in much needed change.
