Scouting Report. Small Forward. player. 14. 34. Pick Analysis. Washington Huskies. Jaden McDaniels

Last, but certainly not least, are the Portland Trail Blazers. Seemingly still without a cornerstone three for the future, they need to keep picking wings and hope one hits.

Nassir Little showed some stuff this season but he is very raw and a longterm prospect. Trevor Ariza is 35, so they need someone who can and play the three within a year or two.

The best wing on the board at 14 would be Jaden McDaniels, out of Washington.

Brother of Jalen McDaniels, who was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in 2019, Jaden is a six-foot-nine small forward with a seven-foot-wingspan.

He is raw, just like last years Blazers draftee, Little. But his scoring upside combined with the skill at his size makes him an intriguing prospect.

McDaniels can shoot, put the ball on the floor, and defend the rim. He may not be as polished as some of the other lottery prospects, but he does have star upside.

He has a long lanky body but he is muscular for his size. He has a nice Eurostep and surprising handle for his size. He was used a lot in transition for Washington with mixed results. His 47% on high volume isn’t great but he was doing a lot as the main creator on this team.

McDaniels ability to finish at the rim combined with his advanced handle and off the dribble shooting means he will get Kevin Durant comparisons. But it’s hard to watch his film and not get excited.

dark. Next. 10 former Portland Trail Blazers that might surprise you

He has great touch around the rim, he can rise up off the dribble and shoot over people and he has a great floater. His passing game isn’t developed yet, but he is able to make basic reads and because of the defensive attention he commands he can pass over people or use his height to get round a big and dump off at the rim.

He fouls far too often on defense but still averaged 1.4 blocks a game in the NCAA this season.

He has the length to be a good defender but guarding top wings will depend a lot on his ability to put on weight and muscle.

The Trail Blazers need a swing for the fences type move to get scoring alongside Dame. McDaniels may be a risk, but if you are picking at the back of the lottery, why not go for someone like this?

That concludes Rip City Project’s first NBA 2020 Mock Draft, thanks for reading, and stay safe!
