Damian Lillard has earned Western Conference Player of the Week for his historic performance as he carried the Portland Trail Blazers to a pair of big wins.
After the week Damian Lillard had, it wasn’t too much of a shock. On Monday, the Portland Trail Blazers star was named Western Conference Player of the Week, after averaging an insane 52.7 points, 9.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game.
Lillard has been hot all week long, and his stats were some of the most impressive we’ve ever seen from him. 52.7 points over a 7-day period feels like a typo at first, but Dame ran riot, leading the depleted Blazers to a 2-1 record.
Lillard kicked if off by scoring a personal and franchise-record 61 points against the Golden State Warriors, dragging Portland to an overtime win in the process. The star point guard hit a clutch three with 15 seconds remaining to tie the game up, the most noteworthy of the 11 shots from deep he hit, which was also a franchise record.
He then recorded 47 points in a loss to Dallas, adding another 8 three-pointers, 8 assists and 6 rebounds. Lillard kept the Blazers in this one, as his scoring and creative ability covered up Portland’s shocking team defense.
Finally, Dame hit 50 against the Pacers, this time with 13 assists and taking home the win. He hit 60 percent of his shots from the field, with 8 three’s once again; it’s humorous now that there were doubts over his All-Star status just last week.
It was a record-setting week as well. Lillard became the first Trail Blazers player to score 40+ for three consecutive games. He also became the second player in league history to hit 8 three’s in three straight games. It was also just the fifth time that a player had scored 50 on 23 shots or less; a remarkable set of records that showcase just how special Dame is.
Lillard is now averaging 28.8 points on the year, as he continued his trend of shooting the lights out shortly after the All-Star votes were released.
This was the eighth time in his career he has won the award, and if Lillard continues playing in the manner he is capable of, it certainly won’t be the last.
