4. Damon Stoudamire
The 14-20 Trail Blazers were in New Orleans to face the then Hornets, who were a measly 4-30.
The Blazers were missing key players for this game, as Zach Randolph, Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Darius Miles were all absent, but that didn’t slow down ‘Mighty Mouse’ Damon Stoudamire.
Stoudamire, in his 12th season in the league, went for a career high 54 points, and scored over half of Portland’s points in what turned into an ugly loss to the Hornets, who finished that year just 18-64.
This stat-line always makes me laugh though; despite the points, there’s really not a lot going on. Stoudamire had 54 and hit 8 three’s- an unbelievable game. But he also tallied 1 assist, 1 steal and, well that’s it. The only other category in his box score which wasn’t a 0 were his personal fouls!
Despite the loss though, this remains an all-time game for the Portland Trail Blazers. Stoudamire was beautiful watch — Isaiah Thomas today plays just like him, he could shoot the three well and was crafty when driving to the rim. Simply put, a professional scorer.
