On Tuesday besides unveiling Carmelo Anthony, the Portland Trail Blazers also revealed their new Nike City edition kit.

The new uniform is on sale now exclusively at Rip City Clothing Co. at Moda Center. I do recommend Portland Trail Blazers fans think twice before investing in a Hassan Whiteside or Kent Bazemore jersey. Both players have an expiring contract and are heavily mentioned in trade rumours.

I digress. The inspiration for the jersey design is based on a couple of jerseys from the ’70s.

"City Edition uniform design is a mash-up of the Trail Blazers first two uniforms ever (1970-71 and 1971-75 seasons), along with modern design accents and vintage coloring.”"

The Blazers are scheduled to debut the jersey next Wednesday when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder on November 27th.

If you’re like my wife and love to be all matchy-matchy with your favorite team on game days then you can find out what edition jersey is scheduled to be worn at Locker Vision.  Pretty neat website by the league. You know, the NBA truly does care.

As for me? I’ll be watching all future Blazers games in my DIY sleeveless hoody.

Below are images released by the Blazers of the new ‘RIP CITY’ Jersey:

I think they look pretty fresh. If you follow soccer, you might be used to new kit designs every year. An easy technique to target jersey collectors and ‘top’ fans that always need to rock the latest jerseys.

The NBA in conjunction with NIKE is really dedicating themselves in expanding team Jersey selection. As much as I like the new looks and creativity – I hate the constant change. As a purist (self-acclaimed when it fits the narrative), I prefer continuity night in and night out.

Nike and the NBA just keep rolling out ‘official’ team Jerseys. I think this brings the total number of Jerseys in rotation to 5.

We have the Association, Icon, Statement, Classic and now the City edition. I wonder what happened to the ‘Earned’ edition? It seems to have fallen out of the official rotation for the time being.

My current favourite is the Icon Edition. Let us know in the comments what current edition is your favorite jersey?
