To commemorate their 1977 championship season, the Portland Trail Blazers will don new throwback jerseys shown to the public for the first time today.

The Portland Trail Blazers give fans a little something extra to be excited about heading into next season with new throwback jerseys. These jerseys feature the iconic vertical text from the year they won their sole NBA championship back in 1977.

The Blazers took to Twitter to release an exciting promotional video, showcasing just how great the new jerseys look.

Bill Walton was there in-person to witness the ceremony memorializing his championship run, just one year before he took home MVP honors. Walton originally seemed to only be hosting a “Bike with Bill Walton” promotional event; little did the fans gathered around know that they would get the first look at such a special and aesthetically pleasing jersey.

Jamie Hudson of NBC shared a few more photos online further detailing the new jerseys, which you can see below.

As you may or may not remember, that Blazers roster not only featured Walton but also featured a few other Portland legends such as Maurice Lucas and Lionel Hollins. This team would go on to finish 49-33 in the regular season, with the second most highly rated offense in the league and the fifth best defense as well.

Dominating both ends of the court helped them to best the Bulls, Nuggets, Lakers and finally the 76ers en route to the franchise’s first and only NBA championship. Perhaps wearing this throwback jersey will help keep the Larry O’Brien Trophy in the sights of this year’s rendition of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Here’s your first look at both Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum wearing their new threads.

If things go to plan, perhaps they will also join the pantheon of iconic Portland Trail Blazers legends enshrined with a championship ring around their fingers. While the jerseys might not actually make the team any better, they remain as a great reminder of the potential this talented core of players truly has.
