A key component of the Portland Trail Blazers’ playoff run departs for The Lone Star State as Seth Curry inks a four-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

For the first time in his career, former Portland Trail Blazers guard Seth Curry gets recognized in free agency and locks down some long-term financial security.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reports that the Dallas Mavericks have made a move to sign Seth Curry to a four-year, $32 million dollar deal.

While Curry serves as the backup option to their preliminary plan Pat Beverley, Blazers fans can attest that Curry will be worth every penny.

Curry knocked down 45 percent of his attempts from 3-point range, providing invaluable spacing for a Portland team that desperately struggled with shooting last year. As an experienced bench piece, Curry offers huge value to a team with its eyes set on title contention.

Dallas is certainly no stranger to Curry’s abilities either, considering he had the best year of his career with the Mavericks in 2016-17. That year he earned a considerable amount of time to showcase his skills, starting 42 games while scoring 12.8 points per game on 42.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

He could very well earn an opportunity to start again, after the Mavericks dealt Dennis Smith Jr. in the deal that brought Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas. It won’t come easy though, as he will have to battle the promising Jalen Brunson for the role.

Regardless, a starting lineup of Curry, Tim Hardaway Jr, Luka Doncic, Porzingis and Maxi Kleber could easily become one of the stacked Western Conference’s most underrated, as Dallas hopes to contend for a spot in the playoffs with their new and upgraded team.

Tangentially, this also likely means the deal sending Goran Dragic from Miami to Dallas is dead in the water and the Lakers now have one less quality role player to hit open threes around the superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Let’s thank Seth Curry for his contributions with the Portland Trail Blazers last year and wish him well back in Dallas!
