2019 NBA Mock Draft 5.0
By Jakob Ashlin
The San Antonio Spurs will receive this pick from the Toronto Raptors due to the Kawhi Leonard trade.
Luka Samanic is an intriguing prospect. He has flashed potential as a playmaker, shooter, and scorer. However, his production is definitely disappointing.
Let’s start with his shooting potential, Samanic possesses promising mechanics and touch, but his three-point percentage of 20% this season is definitely concerning. His free throw percentage 69.8% does not inspire any confidence either.
He can handle the basketball extremely well, but turnovers are an issue for him right now.
Samanic’s tools and athleticism will tempt front offices, but he is obviously a risky prospect.
The Spurs have two first round picks, so they could roll the dice on Samanic here and let him develop in Europe. Best case scenario, they add a playmaking forward with upside to their roster.
The front office already moved on from Pau Gasol, and LaMarcus Aldridge is 33 years old. Adding some youth in the frontcourt would be a smart move for the franchise.
