2019 NBA Draft Prospect Profile: John Konchar
By Jakob Ashlin
Let’s evaluate 2019 NBA Draft prospect John Konchar out of Purdue Fort Wayne, and whether or not, he is a potential fit for the Portland Trail Blazers.
Name: John Konchar
School: Purdue Fort Wayne
Position: Shooting Guard
Projected Draft Position: Second Round
The 2019 NBA Draft is now less than two months away, and the second round of the playoffs has begun. So, I have started to evaluate prospects for the upcoming draft. Let’s continue with Purdue Fort Wayne’s John Konchar.
Strengths
Efficiency
Front offices, who heavily weigh advanced stats, will value Konchar. He finished with the 13th highest efficiency rating in Division 1 basketball and the highest mark among all shooting guards.
He finishes remarkably well at the basket for a shooting guard who somewhat lacks athleticism. He made 62.9% of his two point attempts in his four collegiate seasons.
He also shot an outstanding 41.6% from three.
Playmaking
Konchar improved as a playmaker every season in college. He finished his senior season averaging 5.4 assists per game.
Although teams will not expect him to be a primary playmaker at shooting guard, it is nice to know that he has that ability.
Weaknesses
Level of Competition
Playing at Purdue Fort Wayne, Konchar was not able to showcase his game against top level competition, and that will concern teams. The biggest challenge the Mastodons faced all season was North Dakota State. At the combine scrimmages, he will have a chance to prove himself against other prospects.
Potential Fit
So is Konchar a fit for the Portland Trail Blazers? He is an effective offensive player, but the Blazers do not need to target additional backcourt scorers. Nevertheless, he is such a good value late in the draft that he is definitely worth a look.
