Small Forward. Tennessee. player. Pick Analysis. Admiral Schofield. 22. 34. Scouting Report

Despite rumors that Neil Olshey and the front office were making their first-round pick available at the trade deadline, the Blazers ended up hanging onto their first-round pick.

Admittedly, this might be a little early for Admiral Schofield. Nevertheless, this would be a perfect fit. The Portland Trail Blazers desperately need a perimeter defender. They are only 26th in the league in opponent three-point percentage, and Maurice Harkless has had a disappointing season.

Schofield is one of the best defenders in college basketball. He plays with toughness and physicality, which would certainly be welcome in Portland. He is an exceptional rebounder for a wing averaging 6.4 rebounds per game.

Offensively, Schofield has raised his scoring average and three-point percentage each season at Tennessee. In fact, Schofield is now making 1.9 threes per game at a 40.5% clip. If his offensive improvement is for real, he could be the two-way player that the Blazers have been seeking. Adding a defender like Schofield to the revamped wing rotation that includes Rodney Hood, Gary Trent Jr, and Jake Layman should turn perimeter play into a strength.
