Shelvin Mack
The Memphis Grizzlies are finally exploring the trade market for Mike Conley and Marc Gasol. As a result, no veteran on their roster is safe.
Shelvin Mack does not carry a large salary (only $2 million). However, teams may not be willing to part with any assets to acquire him. Mack is a solid backup point guard but he does not have much upside to tantalize front offices.
Memphis likely will not keep a veteran point guard on an expiring deal around, so he should be bought out or waived if the front office does not trade him before the deadline.
Nevertheless, on the open market teams will be interested in adding reliable guard depth and a veteran presence. He is 28 years old and averages 8 points and 3.5 assists per game. He is a decent three-point shooter at 36.3% and excels at running an offense as he owns an assist to turnover ratio of 3.0.
Mack would be a good backup point guard for the Blazers, especially if Olshey trades Evan Turner before the deadline. We know that the front office was interested in Jeremy Lin. Mack would be a cheaper option and could be just as effective.
