Portland Trail Blazers: Too early to call the hot start fool’s gold, but some real concerns are mounting
By Doug Patrick
There’s no need to panic…. yet.
A three-game losing streak is no reason to panic. Putting everything into perspective, the Blazers are outperforming their preseason expectations already.
But after being spoiled with what could be – where Portland is a force to be reckoned with – makes everything surrounding this team feel more urgent. To muscle their way into the postseason in such a loaded conference, the Blazers need to have their foot constantly on the pedal.
The Blazers have a few options outside of just hit-more-shots to explore. It will likely take a more profound skid to force Coach Stotts’s hand in implementing any of these changes or the front office in pursuing any shakeups, but there is more flexibility around this team than meets the eye.
For example, maybe the Blazers try totally reversing their strategy of playing Lillard and McCollum together and opt to make McCollum into a sixth-man.
There’s a lot on the table, so long as Rip City is willing to try.
Cross your fingers that the Portland Trail Blazers will either turn the tide or make an adjustment before it’s too late.
A few losses in a row is not the end of the world. But to continue losing without any shifts to the team, well, that’s a recipe to drive more than a few fans absolutely insane.
