Bottom line: the Blazers probably shouldn’t do this…
The Portland Trail Blazers probably shouldn’t, and won’t, deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Although Kyle Korver and J.R. Smith’s shooting could be very valuable, they already have two premier shooters at the same positions. Moreover, the Blazers just probably aren’t that ready to give up on Meyers Leonard. And I’m not really, either. But swapping him for Korver… that doesn’t sound too bad.
However, I do think the Blazers will be best served to be aggressive this year in trading to maximize their team. They need to show Dame and CJ that they intend on winning with them together if they want their superstar duo to stay.
Meyers Leonard should be viewed as one of the most valuable assets at the team’s disposal. The services of Cleveland’s trusty old sharpshooters just isn’t worth the swap, though. For now, Portland should hang tight and see who else becomes available later.
Thanks, Cleveland, but we’re okay for now.
