The Portland Trail Blazers opened up the Moda Center last night for the Utah Jazz in their third preseason game. Here are 5 takeaways from the game.

In their third preseason game, the Portland Trail Blazers suffered a heartbreaking defeat to the Utah Jazz. They controlled the game throughout three quarters, but when Utah’s and Portland’s second-units squared off in the fourth, the Blazers ultimately fell apart. They were outscored 39-20 in the final period.

But late game collapse aside, the Blazers looked mostly impressive in this exhibition. Here are 5 takeaways from Blazers vs. Jazz:

Nurkic is the GOAT

Okay, maybe that’s an overstatement. But Jusuf Nurkic was fantastic in this game, looking like a truer member of a Rip City big three alongside Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.

Throughout the first half, he was dominant both offensively and defensively.

Whenever the Blazers’ defense collapsed, he provided support to his guards with his length, forcing turnovers and blocking tons of shots. He worked hard on the glass. And he went five-for-six in shot attempts, including a three-pointer. He ended the half with a double-double: 11 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, and one steal.

Although he was less pronounced in the second half, he remained a consistent contributor. He ended the game with 20 points, 11 boards, and five blocks. Oh – and he hit another three-pointer too.

If Nurkic can continue being this defensive anchor and a threat on the offensive side, he will give the Blazers a huge lift.
