Portland Trail Blazers: Meyers Leonard is like a dream house
By Doug Patrick
Portland Trail Blazers big man Meyers Leonard fell out of favor last season, but his recent performances are inspiring hope. Should you buy back into him?
The idea of Meyers Leonard is what keeps everyone interested in him. He is a legitimate seven-footer who stands just outside the NBA’s 50/40/90 Club (too few attempts) and can space the floor for the Portland Trail Blazers’ elite backcourt.
What’s more, he’s looked pretty good in preseason, averaging 10.5 points per game on 80 percent three-point shooting over two games – including this four-point play:
But the fantasy of Leonard is like when you imagine your dream house. You imagine a personal movie theater and a view overlooking the ocean, but you forget about where you’d put the toilets. And parts of Leonard’s overall game are the toilets of your dream house – forgotten about when fantasizing but oh-so-important when you actually move in.
So, when you get caught up in Meyers Leonard hype and ask yourself: “Am I really buying back into this guy?” Answer, “Not yet” – you still need to evaluate the floor plan.
